Crown Prince Haakon of Norway commented on the allegations against his stepson, saying they are “serious.”
He spoke briefly with the Norwegian broadcaster NRK on Jamaica, which he is currently visiting as a global Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Development Programme.
Marius Borg Hoiby, the son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit from a previous relationship, was arrested on suspicion of rape on Monday night. Crown Prince Haakon said that he is with all those involved in thought and that he trusts the work of the police and the justice department. He told them he would have preferred to be at home right now. He said, “I would have liked to have been home with Mette-Marit today. I miss her.”
The couple was not informed ahead of time that Marius was going to be arrested. The Norwegian royal court has not released an official statement.
