Queen Mathilde of the Belgians has visited a primary school for Belgium’s Reading Week.

The Queen of the Belgians visited the Désiré Van Monckhoven Primary School in Ghent and read to the children as part of Reading Week in the country.

Queen Mathilde was joined by a reader from the Voorleesbende – a group of young adults with disabilities or chronic illnesses who read to children.

The Queen read Mijn zus woont in het donker (or My Sister Lives in the Dark in English), which is about a blind girl named Emma and her brother and sister.

Her Majesty also took time to greet the students who waited for her outside waiving streamers and holding artwork.

Reading Week, an annual tradition to get more people to enjoy reading, lasts in Belgium until Sunday, 24 November.
