Crown Prince Haakon of Norway met volunteer divers who remove sea urchins and restore kelp forests.

There has been an explosion of sea urchins due to overfishing, climate change and pollution, which has led to overgrazed kelp forests. Crown Prince Haakon joined the Directorate of Fisheries’ boat.

As Crown Prince Haakon watched on, 12 divers removed around 2,000 overgrazing sea urchins. They were able to see more closely with the help of an underwater drone. After returning to land, he learned about their commitment to the sea life. He also got a little taste of a sea urchin.
