An assassination attempt on President Trump brings highhanded security for the British State Visit.

Last evening, at the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner in Washington, a man attempted to assassinate the President and high ranking U.S. officials, according to the Acting Attorney General.

The event unfolded just as the glittering dinner was starting. A man rushed a security checkpoint, attempting to breach the secure venue, opening fire in the process. Secret Service immediately went into action and apprehended the 31-year-old California native, Cole Allen Thomas. Washington interim Police Chief Jeffery Carroll stated the suspect was armed with a shotgun, a handgun and multiple knives.

The President with the First Lady, were seated on the dais, when they were evacuated by Secret Service to a secure location before being taken to the White House. A press pooler, who accompanies the Presidential detail, stated last night, “We are flying back to WH. Fastest motorcade I’ve ever been in.” Once back at the White House, the President, in black tie, spoke to the assembled press.

Why is the Royal News Organisation covering this attack? King Charles III and Queen Camilla begin their highly-anticipated state visit to the United States this week. The implications of this shooting will alter safety arrangements and add to the already incredible amount of security by both RaSP (Royalty and Specialist Protection) and the Secret Service.

On Sunday afternoon, Buckingham Palace sent a message to press saying the King has reached out privately to the President and First Lady,

His Majesty is being kept fully informed of developments and is greatly relieved to hear that the President, First Lady and all guests have been unharmed. As you would expect, a number of discussions will be taking place throughout the day to discuss with U.S. colleagues and our respective teams to what degree the events of Saturday evening may or may not impact on the operational planning for the Visit

Cabinet Minister Darren Jones stated,

The Prime Minister has this, morning, sent a message to the President of the U.S, in solidarity to the events that took place. As you would imagine, the Government and the Palace take the security of His Majesty very seriously, and there were already extensive discussions taking place, which will continue over the coming days.

The King and Queen will land in the United States tomorrow to begin their four-day state visit. The Royal News Organisation will bring you any developments in relation to the visit marking the U.S.’s Semiquincentennial (250 years since its founding).
