Remembering Thomas Kingston after his death

Thomas Kingston, the husband of Lady Gabriella Kingston, has died at the age of 45.

Almost five years ago, the world was celebrating his royal wedding at St George’s Chapel, and now we look back on his life and short time as a member of the British Royal Family.

Thomas Henry Robin Kingston was born on 22 June 1978 to William Martin Kingston, a lawyer, and Jill Mary Kingston.

Thomas obtained a bachelor’s degree in economic history from Bristol University and worked as a hostage negotiator in Iraq. He later transitioned into finance, working at a global asset management firm. He spent time as managing director of Voltan Capital Management before working in frontier market investment as Director of Devonport Capital.

It is unknown how Thomas met Lady Gabriella, the daughter of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, but he was no stranger to the royal circle.

Thomas dated Ella, as she is affectionately known, for years before getting engaged on the Isle of Sark in August 2018. The pair wed at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle on 18 May 2019, with the late Queen Elizabeth and Duke of Edinburgh in attendance.

His time as the son-in-law of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent saw him attend minor royal events, including Trooping the Colour, Queen Elizabeth’s lying-in-state and funeral and King Charles’s Coronation.

Thomas died on Sunday, 25 February 2024. A cause of death has not been revealed, and the family has asked for privacy as they mourn their loved one.
