Princess Anne is the unlikely style icon, as Fendi has revealed she was the inspiration behind their new menswear collection.
The frugal royal’s appearance at the Coronation of King Charles III in May 2023 in her Blues and Royals green velvet cloak, feathered hat and her military honours inspired the fashion house.
Designer Silvia Venturini Fendi said, “I fell in love with the style of Princess Anne, who, to my mind, is the most elegant woman in the world. When I saw the coronation last year with Princess Anne in her uniform, I thought she looked beautiful. So I said: ‘Let’s be inspired for a men’s collection’,” according to the Guardian.
She added: “I liked the idea of breaking barriers, breaking the masculine and feminine codes. The princess royal is very rigorous in how she dresses, with this kind of military-minded attitude, but feminine at the same time.
“She has a life outside the spotlight. She’s kind of an anti-fashion person and, to me, that’s something that’s actually very fashionable and chic.”
Town and Country, the 2024/2024 autumn/winter collection, features outfits similar to what the Princess Royal has been seen wearing on walks around Balmoral. It includes rain hats, wellies, oversized Barbour-style parkas, sweaters and tartan skirts and kilts.
The Princess Royal is known for re-wearing outfits and being frugal with her spending on her clothing.
