The Prince of Wales has praised his late mother at her namesake awards in London.
William attended the event marking its 25th anniversary and spoke to the audience about what he learned from his beloved mum, Diana.
He said that Diana taught him everyone “has the potential to give something back.”
William, presenting the Legacy Award, then said that he and his wife, Catherine, aim to strengthen Diana’s legacy through their work.
“I know that she would have been honoured to see a charity in her name doing such inspirational work to uplift young people from all corners of the globe,” he said.
“She taught me that everyone has the potential to give something back, that everyone in need deserves a supporting hand in life. I am so proud to see this belief of my mother’s manifested in the amazing young people receiving the Legacy Award tonight.”
As it was the 25th anniversary of The Diana Awards, the Duke of Sussex also made an appearance via video to honour his mother. He virtually chatted with Diana Award recipients after his brother had left.
The British government established The Diana Awards in 1999 in memory of Diana, Princess of Wales “and her belief that young people have the power to change the world,” according to the organisation’s website.
The Legacy Award is given to a young person who has excelled in social action or humanitarian work.
