Crown Princess Victoria has revealed her thoughts on Frederik becoming King of Denmark in a program aired ahead of Queen Margrethe’s abdication on DR1 in Denmark.
Victoria, who is close friends and cousins with the new Danish monarch, sat down for an interview at her home of Haga Palace to reveal what she thinks about the new monarch and the role he will play.
The journalist asked Victoria, “What is it like to see Frederik step into this new role?”
Victoria responded: “It actually feels very obvious in many ways.
“I have had the privilege of knowing Crown Prince Frederik for such a long time, and he is absolutely ready. I’ve known that for a long time. And he has also shown proof of that so many times.”
The Crown Princess continued: “After all, he has been preparing for this task for a lifetime. But he has grown up in, and with, this role as crown prince, and he has also grown into this task. He has grown up with it.
“And it is clear that it has given him an infinite amount of experience and knowledge, and also an understanding of Danish society. And that is a very good foundation to stand on.”
Victoria’s father, King Carl XVI Gustaf, confirmed last week while out on a royal engagement that he has no plans to abdicate and hand her the throne. The King has reigned for 50 years and is in good health, while Victoria still has two young children.
