King Charles has sent a supportive message to Ukraine as the Eastern European country marks two years since the Russian invasion.
In his strongly worded statement, His Majesty said Ukraine has faced “indescribable aggression” since Russia’s “unprovoked attack on their land.”
The King praised the strength of Ukrainians, stating: “The determination and strength of the Ukrainian people continues to inspire, as the unprovoked attack on their land, their lives and livelihoods enters a third, tragic, year. Despite the tremendous hardship and pain inflicted upon them, Ukrainians continue to show the heroism with which the world associates them so closely. Theirs is true valour, in the face of indescribable aggression.”
He went on to add: “I have felt this personally in the many meetings I have had with Ukrainians since the start of the war, from President Zelenskyy and Mrs Zelenska, to new army recruits training here in the United Kingdom.”
King Charles has been a strong supporter of Ukraine since Russia invaded the country in 2022. He said that he is “greatly encouraged” by the United Kingdom and its allies who have been at the “forefront of international efforts to support Ukraine at this time of such great suffering and need.”
The King closed by saying: “My heart goes out to all those affected, as I remember them in my thoughts and prayers.”
King Charles isn’t the only royal to show support on the anniversary of the beginning of the war. King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands also sent words of support and the Swedish royals attended a peace prayer service in Stockholm.
