King Charles III has been presented with the Honours of Scotland during a National Service of Thanksgiving and Dedication, which took place at St Giles’ Cathedral in Edinburgh.

He was accompanied by his wife, Queen Camilla, and the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay (also known as the Prince and Princess of Wales). The King, Queen and Duke of Rothesay were dressed in the robes of the Order of the Thistle, the order of chivalry associated with Scotland.

Along the famous Royal Mile, crowds had gathered to cheer the People’s Procession, which involved 100 people representing different aspects of Scottish life, and the Royal Procession, which featured service personnel.

The King was presented with the Crown by the Duke of Hamilton and Brandon, who said, “By the symbol of this crown, we pledge our loyalty, entrusting you to reign as our king in the service of all your people.” Charles answered, “In receiving this crown, I so promise by God’s help.”

He was also presented with the new Elizabeth Sword, named for his late mother, which will be the new sword of state, as the old one had to be retired due to its fragility.

After returning to the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the family watched a fly-past.
