King Charles attended the State Opening of Parliament and read out the King’s Speech.

Queen Camilla was by his side as he did so.

Lawmakers gathered in the House of Lords to hear King Charles lay out the priorities of Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

He said that an “increasingly dangerous and volatile” world would test “every element” of Britain. He added, “My government will respond to this world with strength and aim to create a country that is fair for all. My ministers will take decisions that protect the energy, defence, and economic security of the United Kingdom.”

The King’s Speech is largely overshadowed by the turmoil inside the Labour Party. Several lawmakers had called for the Prime Minister’s resignation.

King Charles wore the Robe State, and the Imperial State with its 2,868 diamonds, 17 sapphires, 11 emeralds, and 269 pearls. Queen Camilla wore the George IV State Diadem.
