King Charles has paid tribute to the victims of the South Korean plane crash.

The King released a statement paying tribute to the 179 victims: “My wife and I were profoundly saddened to learn of the horrific air accident at Muan, which resulted in such grievous loss of life.

“As the people of the Republic of Korea mourn this disaster, the families and loved ones of all the victims are in our prayers.”

A Jeju Air plane crashed in southwestern South Korea on Sunday, 29 December. The Boeing 737-800 had 175 passengers and six crew members; miraculously, two crew members survived the crash and were found in the tail of the plane.

The flight took off from Bangkok, Thailand, and crashed into a wall after skidding down the runway on its belly at Muan International Airport.

It is the deadliest plane crash for South Korea in over 20 years.
