King Charles is no longer the shortest-reigning British monarch. There have been 13 British monarchs since the union of the Kingdom of England and the Kingdom of Scotland on 1 May 1707.
King Charles’s great-uncle, King Edward VIII, reigned for 326 days before abdicating to marry the twice-divorced Wallis Simpson. King Charles has now surpassed that reign and currently stands at 327 days.
King Charles succeeded his mother as King upon her death on 8 September 2022.
