King Charles III has handed over the role of Colonel-in-Chief of the Army Air Corps to his eldest son, the Prince of Wales.
The appointment was announced in August 2023. The King previously held the role for 31 years.
King Charles was received by Guard of Honour and Lieutenant General Sir Nicholas Borton, Colonel Commandant of the Army Air Corps, who escorted him to the Army Flying Museum. Inside the museum, the King met with veterans and their families.
Across the airfield, King Charles met up with the Prince of Wales in front of an Apache helicopter to officially hand over the role. He said, “I do hope you’ll go from strength to strength with the Prince of Wales as your new Colonel-in-Chief. The great thing is he’s a very good pilot indeed. I can’t tell you how proud it has made me to have been involved with you all this time.”
Together, they met with serving aircrew. After the King’s departure, Prince William received a briefing on the Army Air Corps’ current work. Prince William left the base in the Apache to learn more about the equipment.
