King Charles and Queen Camilla have met privately with Pope Francis.

The King and Queen met His Holiness during their state visit to Italy at his residence, Casa Santa Marta, in the Vatican City, where the Pope is currently recuperating following a hospital stay.

Buckingham Palace announced on 9 April: “King Charles and Queen Camilla this afternoon had a private meeting with His Holiness Pope Francis at the Vatican.

“Their Majesties were delighted The Pope was well enough to host them – and to have had the opportunity to share their best wishes in person.”

The visit with Pope Francis coincided with the King and Queen’s 20th wedding anniversary.
