The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh have travelled to Paris to cheer on the British athletes at the Paralympic Games.

Their Royal Highnesses were welcomed to the French capital by British Ambassador Menna Rawlings. Rawlings shared a photo from their meeting and said that she was “delighted to welcome the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh to France for the Paris Paralympic Games.”

Both royals have a close relationship with sports. Prince Edward is the patron of the British Paralympic Federation while the Duchess is patron of the British Cycling Federation.

The pair were later spotted at a fencing match with the Duchess waving the Union Jack flag alongside the Ambassador and Chief Executive of Paralympics GB, David Clarke.

Sophie was also in the French capital during the Olympic Games as part of her role with cycling and as patron of England Hockey.

They are not the first British royals to travel to Paris to cheer on British athletes. The Princess Royal was in Paris last month supporting Great Britain and as part of her role as a member of the International Olympic Committee.
