Buckingham Palace has released details of the upcoming Omani state visit later this month, including a state banquet and official welcome at Windsor Castle.
The Sultan of Oman, Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, is scheduled to pay a state visit to the United Kingdom as a guest of King Charles III and Queen Camilla. From Tuesday 20th to Thursday 22nd October, the Sultan will be hosted for a number of engagements with the British Royal Family that include a special exhibition of items relating to Oman from the Royal Collection — one of the last remaining European royal collections with over a million objects, from paintings, drawings and books to sculpture, furniture and jewellery spanning over 500 years.
At the start of this month’s state visit, Sultan Haitham bin Tarik will be greeted by the Prince of Wales at the Sultan’s residence before they proceed together to Windsor.
Upon arrival, King Charles and Queen Camilla will formally welcome the Sultan at the Royal Dais as a Royal Salute is fired at the Home Park in Windsor and at the Tower of London. The Sultan will join the King and Queen, as well as the Prince and Princess of Wales, in a carriage procession through Windsor town to the centuries-old castle.
In the Quadrangle of Windsor Castle, a Guard of Honour will give a Royal Salute and the regimental Band will play the Omani and British National Anthems as the procession arrives. The Sultan, accompanied by the King, will then inspect the Guard of Honour before rejoining the royal party to view the military rank and March past.
The Royal Family will host a luncheon in honour of the Sultan’s visit in the Castle’s State Dining Room. Afterwards, joined by the Sultan and Royal Family, they will view a special exhibition of items relating to Oman from the Royal Collection in the Green Drawing Room.
The evening will conclude with a glittering state banquet hosted by King Charles and Queen Camilla at Windsor Castle for the Sultan. The King and His Majesty will deliver speeches at the beginning of the banquet in St George’s Hall.
The following day, Charles and Camilla will formally bid Sultan Haitham farewell in the morning before heading to London for further engagements. The Sultan will attend a banquet at the Guildhall, hosted by the Lady Mayor of London and the City of London Corporation, and attended by the Duke of Gloucester.
The third and final day of the state visit will see the Sultan visit Here East at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, where His Majesty will receive an overview of Here East as a leading example of place-based transformation, and one of the world’s most successful post-Olympic regeneration projects.
Sultan Haitham bin Tarik will depart from Stansted Airport at the conclusion of the state visit.
