The King and Queen of Bhutan went back to their alma mater to celebrate the school’s Golden Jubilee.

Lungtenzampa School was founded in 1972 under the orders of Princess Dechen Wangmo, the King’s aunt, who was the head of the Ministry of Development at the time.

Their Majesties both attended the school, although at different. The King attended from 1988 until 1992 (Classes 4-8), while the Queen attended from 2001 until 2005 (Classes 6-10).

The King and Queen were also joined by their sons for the celebration as well as former students and teachers who had been a part of the school in the last 50 years. There were performances by students, teachers and alumni, and students built a science exhibition. The King and Queen gifted a Tennis Court to the school, which has been named the Golden Jubilee tennis court.
