Prince Hitachi rushed to hospital

Prince Hitachi of Japan has been rushed to hospital.

Prince Hitachi is the younger brother of Emperor Emeritus Akihito and the uncle of the current Emperor Naruhito. He was hospitalised with a fever today, according to the Imperial Household Agency.

The 87-year-old Prince had been recovering well following surgery to crush stones in his ureter last month but has now been readmitted following this complication.

Prince Hitachi is currently third in the line of succession.
