Funeral details released for Princess Yuriko

Funeral details for Japan’s Princess Yuriko have been announced.

The funeral will take place at Toshimagaoka Cemetery in Bunkyo Ward, Tokyo on 26 November.

Her granddaughter, Princess Akiko of Mikasa, will act as chief mourner.

A condolence book will be set up at Mikasa Palace in the Akasaka Imperial Estate beginning on 16 November for an unspecified amount of time.

Two traditional ceremonies will take place on the evening of 16 November. The first ceremony will be the placement of her body in a coffin, while the next ceremony will allow the family to say goodbye.

The mourning periods for the Imperial Family have also been announced.

Emperor Naruhito’s family, Emperor Emeritus Akihito and Empress Emerita Michiko, the Crown Prince Family and the Prince Hitachi family will mourn for five days.

The immediate family of Princess Yuriko will mourn for 30 days.
