Emperor Emeritus Akihito of Japan is to be admitted to the hospital to undergo a heart examination.
The Imperial Household Agency announced today that the former Emperor will be admitted to the University of Tokyo Hospital on Tuesday.
A regular check-up in April suggested myocardial ischemia, and further tests confirmed this possibility.
The Emperor does not feel ill and has no symptoms. He is going about his daily routine as usual.
