Queen Silvia of Sweden has been awarded the Seraphim Medal.
The Seraphim Medal is one of the world’s oldest medals of merit. She was awarded the medal by her husband, King Carl XVI Gustaf, for particularly significant humanitarian efforts over half a century.

The King presented Queen Silvia with the medal at a ceremony at the Royal Palace, in front of family, her household and other representatives of the court.
Queen Silvia had spearheaded humanitarian efforts of great importance in Sweden and other countries. She has supported children who are growing up in difficult circumstances and those affected by dementia. Among the organisations founded by Queen Silvia are Mentor, the World Childhood Foundation and Silviahemmet.
