The visit started at the cemetery in Lviv, where the King and President Zelenskyy laid wreaths in honour of the Ukrainians who have died during the war.
On his social media, President Zelenskyy said, “King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden began his visit to Ukraine by honoring our fallen warriors together with me. We are deeply grateful for this gesture of respect. The memory of each and every one of them is very important to us – the defenders of Ukraine who fought against Russian aggression. They fought not only for our country, but also for the protection of all of Europe, so that Russian madness and killing would not spread further. Eternal memory to our fallen heroes!”
Later that day, King Carl XVI Gustaf and President Zelenskyy met at the Pototsky Palace in Lviv. Outside of the palace, the King said, “In Sweden, we wholeheartedly support the brave Ukrainians. You have our full support! I am deeply impressed by the courage you have shown, Mr President. You are a great leader for Ukraine!”
Afterwards, the King had a walking tour through Lviv’s historic city centre and at a Superhumans centre for veterans, the King and the Foreign Ministers met with wounded soldiers. They then headed to a school, where they spoke with students and teachers about the ongoing war.
They then visited St. Andrew’s Church, which was severely damaged in a Russian attack. They concluded their visit to Ukraine with a visit to the village of Gammalsvenskby.
