The Duke of Edinburgh was on hand to mark Canada Day in Ontario on 1 July during his multi-day trip to the country.
On the penultimate day of the tour, the Prince attended celebrations of Canada’s national holiday and spoke at a ceremony in both English and French (the official languages of Canada).
While addressing the crowds in the capital of Ottawa, Prince Edward shared a message to Canadians on behalf of King Charles and Queen Camilla.
“I also bring you Their Majesties’ greetings on this day. They send you their very best wishes, and they do want to say thank you for the wonderful welcome that they received just a few weeks ago when they were here,” he said.
Prince Edward added that the King and Queen want to spend more time in Canada and “to visit more provinces in due course.”
He also expressed his thanks for “wonderful messages of support from so many of you to Their Majesties and also the wonderful wishes you sent to my brother for a speedy recovery.”
The Duke said he was happy to be in Canada to celebrate the holiday, which he remarked was “evidently quite a party!”
The Duke of Edinburgh added that the Royal Family takes “immense pride in Canada and Canadians.”
On 1 July, Edward also visited the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, as Honorary Deputy Commissioner, and celebrated The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, which has been operating since 1963.
Prince Edward is visiting Canada from 25 June to 2 July.
King Charles and Queen Camilla visited Canada just last month.
