King Felipe of Spain visited the “Álvarez de Sotomayor” Base in Viator to learn more about the Spanish Army’s 2026 Tactical Experimentation Campaign.

Upon arrival, the King was received by the Chief of Staff of the Army, General Amador Fernando Enseñat y Barea; the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Army, Lieutenant General Antonio Jesús Cabrerizo Calatrava; and the Commander of the “King Alfonso XIII” II Brigade of the Legion, Brigadier General José Agustín Carreras Postigo.

He then received military honours and reviewed the assembled troops. He went on to greet the various military representatives, as well as the Future Force Centre Team, which coordinated the Tactical Experimentation Campaign. King Felipe attended a presentation on the campaign’s objectives, including testing the effectiveness of new technology.

The King visited the training area, where various technologies were showcased. He was given a demonstration with drones using different sensors and effectors. Unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) were also presented.

At the end of the tour, the King was given a demonstration of a robot attack on a target, which integrated unmanned aerial and ground systems, loitering munitions, and combat vehicles.

The 2026 Tactical Experimentation Campaign brings together various departments, including the Spanish Army, agencies from the Ministry of Defence, and several defence companies.

King Felipe then travelled to the headquarters of the “King Alfonso XII” II Brigade of the Legion, where he held a meeting with its officers. At the headquarters, he also attended a social event where the Army Chief of Staff offered a toast.
