The Danish and Swedish royals joined forces to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Öresund Bridge, which connects Denmark and Sweden.

King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden met King Frederik and Queen Mary to celebrate the anniversary at Lernacken in Malmö, Sweden, Pepparholm in Öresund, Denmark, and Amager Strandpark outside Copenhagen.

The day began in Sweden with the Kings of Denmark and Sweden unveiling two binoculars aimed toward the Danish coast. After the ceremony with music and speeches by government officials, the royals travelled across the bridge to Denmark.

The next ceremony was on the artificial island of Pepparholm, where the bridge becomes a tunnel. There, they heard about the island’s development since its inauguration.

Finally, the Kings and Queens arrived in Amager Strandpark, where King Frederik and King Carl Gustaf unveiled two more binoculars – this time aimed toward Sweden.

The day concluded with a private lunch at Amalienborg Palace hosted by King Frederik and Queen Mary.

The bridge connecting the two countries opened in 2000 with King Carl Gustaf and Queen Margrethe in attendance.
