Princess Laurentien of the Netherlands has announced that she will resign her presidency of the Foundation for Equal Repair.

The Foundation helped parents who were involved in the so-called childcare allowance affair. Some parents who received a child allowance were forced to pay back the complete amount of the allowance after small mistakes were made, leading people into debt, and some even had their children taken away. The Foundation was helping to settle with the parents.

A few weeks ago, news reports appeared that the Princess had shown “inappropriate behaviour” to the civil servants she was working with. An emotional Princes Laurentien told RTL Nieuws, “The last thing I want is that it is all about me.” She remains unaware if there is an official investigation into her conduct.

She added, “This is who I am. My identity is my professionalism. And when you are then personally attacked. Then, I am made into a different person. That affects me.”

She told RTL Nieuws that she is stepping down because the attention is now hindering the foundation’s purpose. She said, “I have never, in 20 years, been a ‘trouble’. Maybe it’s inappropriate, but I have been a boring **** for 20 years.”

She will remain active with the Foundation in the background.
