The Duchess of Edinburgh is headed to Zambia to undertake engagements highlighting the two countries’ shared interests, including gender equality, climate and nature, and education.
The Duchess of Edinburgh is once again representing the United Kingdom as she visits the Republic of Zambia this week, from Monday 14 to Friday 19 September.
In Lusaka, Lower Zambezi and Livingstone, Sophie will undertake a number of engagements highlighting shared interests, including gender equality, climate and nature, and education and research partnerships.
The Duchess of Edinburgh will also visit Community House for a meeting with President Hichilema and, in Livingstone, visit Mosi-oa-Tunya, one of the seven wonders of the natural world, where she will lay a posy at the WWI memorial.
While in the region, as the Global Ambassador for the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness, Her Royal Highness will also engage with the charities Orbis and Sightsavers, including a visit to a health clinic in Mukuni Village, which runs a successful trachoma elimination program.
The Duchess visited Somalia and Kenya in February of this year, where she engaged with survivors of conflict-related sexual violence and highlighted local peace-building efforts with local and government leaders.
