King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima have received Italian President Sergio Mattarella and his daughter Laura Mattarella for a three-day state visit to the Netherlands.
The welcome ceremony took place on Dam Square where the guard of honor was inspected. In the evening, the Royal Couple offered a state banquet in the Royal Palace, where both the King and the President gave a speech. King Willem-Alexander referred to the state visit made to Italy five years ago, which he said was “unforgettable”. Princess Beatrix and Princess Margriet were also present at the state banquet.

On Thursday, the president and his daughter laid a wreath at the 1940-1945 Memorial in The Hague. They did this together with Prime Minister Mark Rutte and the mayor of The Hague. In the afternoon they visited the office of the Prime Minister and they had lunch with the royal couple in the Trêves hall.
On Friday, the Gouvernement in Maastricht was visited on the occasion of the thirtieth anniversary of the Treaty of Maastricht. Later that day, the president was received by the mayor in Heerlen. Among other things, the Thermenmuseum was visited there.
