King Carl XVI Gustaf joined Queen Silvia for the annual tradition of purchasing the first May flower of the year.

As is tradition, Queen Silvia invited children from the Mayflower organisation to Stockholm Palace to sell the first May flower of the year.

Naomi Riquelme Nagér and Verner Nyberg from Vällingby Scoutkår travelled to the Royal Palace to sell the first pink, blue and yellow flower.

While it is customary for the Swedish Queen to purchase the flower, this year the King joined his wife in buying a May flower to help disadvantaged children.

The 2026 May flower was named “A happier everyday life” and was designed by Saga Laventzakis and Leia Sandell.

The Mayflower organisation, which counts Queen Silvia as patron, is dedicated to helping children in economically vulnerable positions. It was created in 1907.

More information on the Mayflower can be found here.
