Funeral details released for Princess Birgitta

The Royal Court of Sweden has released details on Princess Birgitta’s funeral.

The private funeral will occur on Sunday, 15 December at the Royal Chapel of Drottningholm Palace.

In accordance with Princess Birgitta’s wishes, only immediate family and close friends will attend her funeral.

King Carl Gustaf ordered that flags be at half mast on the day of the funeral to honour his sister.

She will be buried at the Royal Burial Ground at Haga Park in Stockholm. The cemetery will be open to the public on 16 December so that the public can visit the Princess’s grave.

Those who wish to sign the condolence books can do so in the Rikssalen at the Royal Palace or Riddarholm Church from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm on 15 December.

The Seraphim Toll for deceased Knights of the Order of the Seraphim will take place on 15 December at Riddarholm Church from 12:00 to 1:00 pm. The Princess had been a Knight of the Order of the Seraphim since 1952.

Princess Birgitta died in Mallorca, Spain, where she had lived for many years, on 4 December. She was 87.
