Prince Hisahito won’t start undertaking royal duties until 2025.

The Prince, who is expected to be Emperor of Japan one day, will turn 18 on 6 September. The young royal will not complete high school until March 2025.

Prince Hisahito’s Coming of Age Ceremony won’t be held until after his graduation.

The Grand Steward of the Imperial Household Agency told Japanese media: “I think it’s appropriate [for Prince Hisahito] to attend events and rituals in the palace after his coming-of-age ceremony.”

It has also been suggested that the Prince will be granted the Supreme Order of the Chrysanthemum at his Coming of Age Ceremony.

Hisahito is the only son of Crown Prince Fumihito and Crown Princess Kiko.

The Prince is second in the line of succession as the only grandson of Emperor Emeritus Akihito. His uncle, Emperor Naruhito, only has one daughter, and women are not allowed to ascend the Japanese throne.
