Queen Sofía of Spain and Princess Muna attended the Alzheimer’s Disease International (ADI) Global Conference.
Queen Sofía was received by Meera Pattabiraman and Maree McCabe, members of the Board of Directors of Alzheimer’s Disease International. She met with Princess Muna Al Hussein of Jordan, the mother of King Abdullah II, who is also deeply involved in various causes.

The Queen attended the plenary session called “Beyond the plan: The future of dementia policy”, during which Dévora Kestel, Acting Director of Noncommunicable Diseases and Mental Health at the World Health Organization, presented the paper “Integrating dementia into the global NCD and mental health agenda: WHO’s response to the Extension of the Global Action Plan”; and July Esther Caballero, Executive Director of the Mental Health Directorate of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Peru, presented “Peru’s National Dementia Plan.” The session was moderated by ADI Executive Director Paola Barbarino.
Queen Sofía then attended the official opening ceremony, where several speeches were held, including one by Bernard Verger, who has dementia, along with his wife, Régine Verger, and their son, Clément Verger.
The following day, Queen Sofía continued with a visit to the exhibition on Alzheimer’s disease in the lobby of the Lyon Congress Palace. Afterwards, she attended a meeting with researchers, where topics such as the evolution of Alzheimer’s disease and its treatment were addressed.
