Prince Floris of Orange-Nassau was born on 10 April 1975 as the fourth and youngest son of Princess Margriet of the Netherlands and Pieter van Vollenhoven. At the time of his birth, he was ninth in the line of succession. He was the reigning Queen Juliana’s 11th grandchild.

After his primary education, the prince went on to study corporate and criminal law at the University of Leiden. After working for the judicial system, he went into business in 2007.

On 22 October 2005, Prince Floris married Aimée Söhngen. They married without acquiring parliamentary approval, causing Prince Floris to lose his place in the line of succession and his membership of the royal house. It was decided that any future children would carry the last name “Van Vollenhoven.” They would also not carry any royal or noble titles.

The couple went on to have three children together: Magali (born 2007), Eliane (born 2009) and Willem Jan (born 2013).

Prince Floris does not carry out royal duties, although he and his wife do make appearances on family occasions such as King’s Day.
