Queen Sonja of Norway cancelled her program for today due to ‘heart fibrillation.’

Queen Sonja (88) has had to cancel her attendance at a number engagements today due to ‘heart fibrillation’ according to Palace communications advisor Simen Loberg Sund. The Queen was scheduled to meet the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, including an official luncheon.

In January 2025, Queen Sonja had a pacemaker inserted, also due to heart fibrillation, in connection with a skiing trip. The Queen had experienced a rapid heart beat while cross-country skiing in Lillehammer. Later that year, in April 2025, Her Majesty was airlifted to Rikshospitalet following a cardiac episode at the Prince’s Cabin in Sikkilsdalen, where the Royal Couple were spending their Easter holiday.

As of now, the Palace has only indicated that today’s engagement’s will be affected. The next in the diary for Queen Sonja is the county visits to Vestland from 26-28 May.

King Harald has previously had a pacemaker inserted following his own health scare.
