The Norwegian Royals have celebrated National Day.
The Norwegian National Day, or Constitution Day, is always celebrated on 17 May, and celebrates the signing of the 1814 Constitution.
King Harald, Queen Sonja, Crown Princess Mette Marit, Crown Prince Haakon and Prince Sverre Magnus greeted the traditional children’s procession in Oslo from the Royal Palace. Princess Ingrid Alexandra celebrated National Day in Australia, where she is studying. Crown Princess Mette-Marit, who has pulmonary fibrosis, was seen using a nasal cannula connected to an oxygen device.
The children’s procession was headed by the Armed Forces Staff Band, followed by the May 17th Committee and representatives of Oslo’s political and administrative leadership. Then came the 100,000 schoolchildren. Children from school marking an anniversary always come first. This year, three schools were marking their 100th anniversary: Bygdøy School, Ullevål School, and the Rudolf Steiner School. A total of 120 schools took part.
