Queen Silvia of Sweden won an award in her native Germany for her work in helping vulnerable children.

The Queen was given the “Düsseldorfer des Jahres” award in recognition of her work to help vulnerable children across the globe.

Minister-President of North Rhine-Westphalia, Hendrik Wüst, presented the honour at the Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen Museum.

As the founder of the World Childhood Foundation, Queen Silvia also stopped by the German branch of the organisation’s Childhood-Haus Düsseldorf, where children who have been victims of abuse or violence can find safety and care.

There, she met representatives from medicine, law enforcement, psychology and social services, alongside the World Childhood Foundation representatives, to hear about their work with children. They also discussed how to further protect children in Germany.

Queen Silvia also met the Minister-President and Ambassador Veronika Wand-Danielsson at the State Chancellery after arrival in Germany.
