Queen Silvia and Princess Madeleine of Sweden were in New York to attend a meeting of the World Childhood Foundation.

The meeting focussed on protecting children at the centre of sustainable travel and tourism and took place at the UN headquarters. Queen Silvia, who founded the foundation and is Honorary Chair, was one of the keynote speakers alongside UN Under-Secretary-General Amina Mohammed and Najat Maalla M’jid, the Secretary-General’s Special Envoy on Violence Against Children.

The Queen said, “When travel increases again after the pandemic, we have an opportunity to put things right, to shape new patterns and behaviours that protect children.”

Later that day, Queen Silvia and Princess Madeleine attended a gala, and the funds raised during the evening will go to projects to prevent the sexual abuse of children.
