Queen Margrethe II of Denmark has undergone a balloon angioplasty.
The Danish Royal House released the following press release: “Her Majesty Queen Margrethe, who was admitted to Rigshospitalet on Thursday, has undergone a balloon angioplasty of the coronary artery. As previously announced, Queen Margrethe will remain at Rigshospitalet for a few more days. Her Majesty is in good health.”
She was hospitalised on Thursday with chest pains.
Queen Margrethe reigned as Queen of Denmark from 14 January 1972 until her abdication on 14 January 2024. Her son is now King Frederik X of Denmark. Queen Margrethe’s husband, Henri, died in 2018.
Queen Margrethe has had a number of health issues over the years. Most recently, she underwent major back surgery due to back pain. She was hospitalised in 2024 after breaking her wrist in a fall. She also had injuries to the vertebrae in her neck. Last May, she had a bad cold, which saw her hospitalised for two days.
