Princess Sofia speaks out about Epstein relationship

Princess Sofia of Sweden has spoken about her relationship with the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, or lack thereof.

Princess Sofia of Sweden, 41, was named in the recently released files from the U.S. Department of Justice pertaining to the disgraced sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein. In particular, the Princess was said to have met Epstein on “a few occasions.”

This past December, the Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter (DN) published correspondence between Jeffrey Epstein and businesswoman Barbro Ehnbom.

Ehnbom—who is said to have run a network for “young and ambitious women”—is believed to have been a mentor to the then Sofia Hellqvist. Barbrom allegedly tried to, and successfully, arrange meetings between the financier paedophile and the future Princess.

Sofia previously worked as a model and reality show contestant in Sweden. Around 2005, Hellqvist moved to New York City to study business development and accounting at the New York Institute of English and Business. The future Princess was also a qualified yoga instructor.

Emails sent from Barbro Ehnbom, who referred to herself as BE, say, “This is Sofia, an aspiring actress who just arrived in New York. She’s the girl I told you about before I left, who I thought you might like to meet. Maybe we can visit before you go on holiday?” To which Epstein replied, “I’m in the Caribbean. Does she want to come for a couple of days? I’ll send a ticket.”

It was during that time in New York City that Hellqvist was introduced to the now-dead sex trafficker on a “few occasions.” It is understood that Sofia met Epstein at social gatherings, including a movie premiere, but never alone, nor did the future Princess ever visit the all-too-infamous island in the Caribbean.

Barbro Ehnbom attended the royal wedding between Prince Carl Philip and Sofia in 2015.

On Tuesday, 10th February, 2026, outside the Intiman Theatre in Stockholm, Princess Sofia spoke to the press regarding the released correspondence, saying,

As we [the Royal Court] mentioned earlier, I met him in a couple of social settings. But, now, that I have read about all the horrific crimes he subjected young women to, I am so grateful that I have had nothing to do with him since those few occasions in my 20s.

My thoughts are truly with all the victims. I hope there is justice in this.

The Swedish Royal Court previously commented,

The recent media reporting regarding Princess Sofia has given rise to speculation about the Princess and her alleged relationship with Jeffrey Epstein. No one can be expected to remember every person they have encountered throughout their life; however, Princess Sofia recalls meeting Epstein on a few occasions about 20 years ago.

We wish to clarify that these meetings took place in social settings, such as at a restaurant and a movie premiere.

Reports that the Princess received help from Epstein with acting lessons or with a visa to the United States are incorrect. The Princess has never been dependent on him in any way, nor has she had any contact with him for the past 20 years.

Jeffrey Epstein was found dead in a Manhattan jail cell awaiting trial for his heinous sex crimes against young women in August 2019. The cause of death was ruled a suicide.
