The Princess of Asturias has received the Gold Medal of the Region of Murcia, the highest distinction awarded by the Autonomous Community.

As she arrived at the Palace of San Esteban, the Princess was received by the President of the Region of Murcia. In the Palace cloister, she greeted the members of the Regional Government Council and, in the chapel, former Presidents of the Region of Murcia, María Antonia Martínez and Alberto Garre. She then signed the guest book.

The President of the Region of Murcia read out the Regional Government Council’s resolution to award the Gold Medal of the Region of Murcia to the Princess. She has already received other regional awards from Madrid, Asturias, Aragon and Galicia.

The Princess of Asturias then addressed the attendees, emphasising, “Believe me when I say that I fully understand the appreciation that Spanish society has for our Armed Forces. It is not the first time I have mentioned it, and I believe I will repeat it many more times throughout my life: I admire their competence, their professionalism, and the way they instil in all of us who study at the military academies the values of commitment, loyalty, and dedication in serving others.”

She thanked the representatives present and remarked that although she still has a month of training left, the event symbolises the end of an important stage in her life.

At the end of the event, young members of the Region of Murcia Symphony Orchestra played the national anthem.

Earlier in the day, she received the Gold Medal of the Town of San Javier and was named as an Adopted Daughter of the municipality.
