The Princess of Asturias began her training with the Spanish Navy at the Port of Cadiz on 8 January.

The Princess joined the training ship “Juan Sebastián de Elcano” at an event marking the beginning of her training as a first-class midshipman.

Casa Real released many images from the event showing the Princess greeting officers and holding a meeting with some of those in charge of her training. Afterwards, the teenage royal asked permission to join the formation of her fellow recruits.

Leonor has already completed military training with the Spanish Army. After completing her year with the Navy, she will train with the Air Force.

Like many other heirs across Europe, Leonor is training with the military to better prepare herself for her future role as monarch where she will head up the Armed Forces. This includes the authority to declare war and peace, with the permission of Spain’s parliament.
