Claims have been made in a letter that Princess Märtha Louise of Norway was more involved with a gin launched for her upcoming wedding than previously believed.

Princess Märtha Louise will marry Durek Verret in a four-day celebration in Geiranger, Norway, in August, and she is not permitted to her royal title commercially. Health authorities are now investigating the wedding gin that has been launched, which used their names and a monogram on the label. The label reads, “We created this gin for the wedding of Princess Märtha Louise and Durek Verrett in Geiranger in August 2024.”

A spokesperson for Princess Märtha Louise said that it was a “mistake” that the label included her title and said that it would be removed from future batches. Princess Märtha Louise renounced her royal duties two years ago and pledged not to use her title commercially. The couple were involved in making the design for the label, according to the gin producer, and it was reportedly the Princess’s idea to sell it as well.

The Norwegian health authority confirmed it was looking into the case “as part of our mandate to supervise compliance with the Norwegian prohibition against the advertising of alcoholic beverages”.
