Princess Birgitta of Sweden’s cause of death has been revealed by a friend.

Talking to Svenskdam, Birgitta’s friend in Mallorca, Alexandra Charles, has revealed what caused the royal’s death at the age of 87.

She said she last spoke to Princess Birgitta last week: “It came like lightning from a clear sky. I spoke to her eight days ago. Then she felt fine and everything was as usual.”

The Princess suffered a fall after speaking to Alexandra and ended up in hospital.

Alexandra told the Swedish magazine: “Then she had an accident by falling and ending up in hospital. She had beaten herself so badly. She had hit her head, broken her arm in two places and hit her back. She was in hospital, at first she thought she would be allowed to come home. Then she had become worse, both weak and dull. The heart couldn’t take it.”

Princess Birgitta passed away peacefully in her sleep in Spain on 4 December. She will be laid to rest at home in Sweden.
