King Felipe of Spain has awarded Dutch heir Princess Amalia the Royal Order of Isabella the Catholic.

The King of Spain issued a Royal Decree to bestow the honour on the 20-year-old Princess of Orange, ahead of the Spanish State Visit to the Netherlands.

King Felipe wrote: “I wish to express my royal appreciation for Her Royal Highness Princess Catharina-Amalia of the Netherlands, on the proposal of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, and after deliberation of the Council of Ministers.”

The Spanish State Visit to the Netherlands takes place in one week, and Princess Amalia will attend her first State Banquet during the visit. She will wear her Dame Grand Cross of the Order Isabella the Catholic at that time.

King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain will visit the Netherlands from 17 to 18 April.
