Pope Francis is battling double pneumonia in Gemelli Hospital.

His Holiness has been hospitalised since Friday, 14 February, but received an updated diagnosis of double pneumonia this week.

The situation is said to be “complex,” but a recent medical update revealed that the Pope has seen a “slight improvement” since being hospitalised in Rome.

The Holy See Press Office has said His Holiness remains “in good spirits” and has “received the Eucharist and, throughout the day, alternated between rest, prayer, and reading. He expresses his gratitude for the support he feels at this time and kindly asks that prayers for him continue.”

Born Jorge Mario Bergoglio on 17 December 1936 in Argentina, Pope Francis has been the head of the Catholic Church since the abdication of Pope Benedict in 2013.
