The Royal Court of Noway has said King Harald is “stable” in the hospital in Tenerife.
King Harald of Noway, 89, was admitted to hospital on Tuesday in Tenerife . The Royal Court said that the King’s condition was considered “good given under the circumstances.”
King Harald and Queen Sonja are currently on a private trip for their winter holiday in the Spanish Canary Islands.
Earlier this afternoon, 25th February, the Royal Court of Norway issued its first update on the health of the King saying His Majesty is in a “stable” condition.
A statement from the Royal Court said,
On the evening of Tuesday 24 February His Majesty The King was admitted to Hospital Universitario Hospiten Sur in Tenerife for treatment of an infection and dehydration.
The King’s physician, Bjørn Bendz, issued the following statement:
“The King’s general condition is good, and he is responding well to treatment. The infection originates from a skin infection in one of his legs. The King will remain in hospital for a few more days for observation and further treatment.
When individuals of nearly 90 years of age are admitted with an infection, it is a serious matter. It is important that we obtain a clear overview and full control of the health situation before The King is discharged – even though his condition is currently stable.”
A further update on the health of His Majesty The King will be provided tomorrow afternoon, Thursday 26 February.
The Royal News Organisation has reached out the Palace for comment, having nothing more to say and redirecting to the aforementioned statement.
King Harald will remain at the Hospital Universitario Hospiten Sur in Tenerife, under the care of his personal physician, until further notice. The hospital, of the private Hospiten International network, is equipped with 187 beds, 18 ICU beds, five operating rooms, 16 emergency room bays, and a Hospiten Dialysis Club. The hospital in Santa Cruz also has “specialist professionals in Cardiology and Sports and Exercise Cardiology who have the optimal technology to perform a comprehensive cardiovascular study,”, per the Hospital Universitario Hospiten Sur.
King Harald was fitted with a pacemaker following his last health scare in 2024 while on a private trip to Malaysia. The King ended up necessitating a medical air evacuation aboard SAS aircraft, fitted for patients, to fly the 89-year-old Sovereign back to Norway.
The Royal News Organisation will keep you up to date throughout the King’s hospitalisation.
