A memorial service for Princess Irene of Greece and Denmark was held in Madrid on 24 February.

The service was held at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of St. Andrew and St. Demetrius in Madrid.

Irene’s sister, Queen Sofía of Spain, attended alongside her daughters, Infanta Cristina and Infanta Elena.

Other attendees for the private service included Sofía’s grandchildren, Princess Anne of Bourbon-Two Sicilies and the former Tsar Simeon of Bulgaria.

King Felipe was unable to attend the Mass for his aunt as he and Queen Letizia were out of town on official duties.

Princess Irene died at the age of 83 on 15 January in Madrid’s Zarzuela Palace. She was buried in her homeland of Greece in the Royal Cemetery.
