King Willem-Alexander has said his country has failed the Jewish people after an anti-Semitic attack on Israelis in Amsterdam.
The King released a statement on 8 November after Israelis in Amsterdam for a soccer match were brutally attacked after a match between Maccabi Tel Aviv and the Dutch team Ajax.
King Willem-Alexander revealed in a statement that he had called Israel’s President Herzog and said: “I just spoke to President Herzog about the events last night in Amsterdam. I told him how shocked my wife and I are by the violence against Israeli supporters who are guests in our country. We cannot turn a blind eye to anti-Semitic behaviour in our streets. Our history has taught us how intimidation goes from bad to worse, with horrific consequences. Jews must feel safe in the Netherlands, everywhere and at all times. We put our arms around them and will not let them go.”
During his call with the President, he told him: “We failed the Jewish community of the Netherlands during World War II, and last night we failed again.”
Dutch, Israeli and Western leaders have all condemned the attack that came just days from the anniversary of Kristallnacht that took place in 1938 against Jews in Germany and its incorporated territories.
Israel sent government planes to evacuate the Israelis from the Netherlands after the attack in which five people were hospitalised and another 20-30 people were injured. Dutch police arrested at least 62 people.
Anti-Semitism has been on the rise across the world after Israel began fighting against the terrorist organisation, Hamas, after the terrorist attack on Israel on 7 October 2023 where thousands were killed and hundreds kidnapped. Many hostages remain in Gaza as the war enters its 13th month.
When I see those 60 people arrested given long term jail sentences, THEN I might believe!
Until then? Talk is cheap! It always has been.
