King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain met with Pope Leo XIV after his inauguration today.
The King and Queen attended the mass for the beginning of Pope Leo’s pontificate in St. Peter’s Square.
The entire Spanish delegation consisted of the First Vice President of the Government and Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero; the Second Vice President of the Government and Minister of Labour and Social Economy, Yolanda Díaz; the Minister of the Presidency, Justice, and Parliamentary Relations, Félix Bolaños; the Spanish Ambassador to the Holy See, Isabel Celaá; and the Leader of the Opposition, Alberto Núñez Feijóo.

The King and Queen were first received by the Chief of Protocol of the Holy See, Javier Domingo Fernández. After the mass, they were able to enter St. Peter’s Basilica to greet Pope Leo and convey their congratulations and best wishes on behalf of the Spanish people.
They also said they hoped to see him soon in Spain.
